Tax Advice, Notices and Appeals
We advise on tax positions before they become disputes, and represent clients when they do. Our work covers income tax, federal sales tax and provincial sales tax on services.
Tax notices
We review the notice, its legal basis and the records the department holds, and draft a reply supported by documents. Notices we commonly handle include:
- Notices to file returns under section 114(4)
- Amendment of assessment under section 122
- Selection for audit under section 177
- Withholding tax recovery under section 161
- Sales tax show cause notices from FBR and PRA
Appeals
Where an order is wrong in law or on facts, we prepare and argue appeals before the Commissioner Inland Revenue (Appeals) and the Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue, and support legal counsel in references before the High Court.
Tax advisory
- Tax treatment of salary, business and investment income
- Tax on purchase, sale and rental of property
- Residency and taxation of overseas Pakistanis and non-residents
- Tax consequences of restructuring, partnership changes and incorporation
Frequently asked questions
I have received a notice. What should I send you?
The notice, your returns and wealth statements for the years mentioned, and any earlier correspondence. Do not let the compliance date pass; where more time is needed, we apply for it before the due date.
Is there a deadline to file an appeal?
Yes. An appeal to the Commissioner Inland Revenue (Appeals) must generally be filed within 30 days of receiving the order. Contact us as soon as you receive an order.
